Adam,16, who loves to cook and bake, has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He is currently doing a clinical trial for the drug ToZaPrex. Part of the trial is for Adam to go to therapy session once a week. He doesn’t talk during the sessions, because he doesn’t want to accidentally say something and get kicked out of the trial. Instead, he writes journal entries to the therapist about his days and how he feels while taking the the drug.
I loved how the book was told in journal entries over the course of a year to the therapist. It kept me wanting to know where Adam was at in the drug trial and see how he was handling the different changes in is life. I loved how Julia, the author, wrote Maya into the mix. Without Maya, the book wouldn’t have been as good. Overall, Julia did a good job writing on a sensitive topic.
I give it a 4.5/5
