Genre: Fractured Fairytale

Series: Dorothy Must Die #1

The short story:

Amy is just another girl with Teen angst growing up in the middle of nowhere Kansas. Her mom is no use, barely able to cope with life let alone raise a teenage daughter and the kids at school make fun of her for living in a trailer park. One day all of that changes as Amy is swept away in a tornado to the land of Oz. Things are a bit different than the stories we all know and Dorothy is not the sweet & innocent heroine anymore. As Amy teams up (reluctantly) and trains with the Order of the Wicked, she must discover who she is and why Dorthy Must Die.

My thoughts

This was a fun book. I’ve started listening to Audio books through Hoopla, but this was one that I had to find the book and finish because I couldn’t wait long enough to finish the recording. There is some language and scenes that aren’t for the faint of heart. The scarecrow is no longer a lovable goofball and his science experiments get a bit…gory. That being said, it’s got everything you need: an underdog needing to find her place in the world, a couple of hunky boys that she can’t be with because she needs to focus on the task at hand, and a familiar landscape turned upside down. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending, because I hate it when books end in a mid-fight cliffhanger to get you reading the second book. Which it does. Remember Hunger Games Catching Fire? So irritating. If you’re looking for a new series to devour, this might be the one. There’s 4 books and several short stories to get you really immersed in the journey.

I give it 3.5/5 stars
